Sibi Jabang, Abdoulie Camara and Lamin Camara were recently arraigned before Magistrate Edward Singhateh of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, charged with common assault.
They all pleaded guilty of the charge, and were each convicted and sentenced to a fine of D200 in default to serve two weeks in prison.
The first convict, Sibi Jabang, was also ordered to compensate the complainant with D200 in default to serve another two weeks in prison.
According to the facts of the case as narrated by the police prosecutor, CPL Lamin Jammeh, it happened on 15 August 2011, at Jambanjelly village.
He said the complainant went to the compound of one Amie Camara to plait her hair, who shared the same compound as the convicted person.
He said the first convict came and found the complainant was plaiting her hair, and she asked the complainant to remove the rasta hair from her compound.
He further narrated that after the complainant responded to her, the first convict rushed on her and assaulted her, adding that while the complainant was struggling with the first convict, the 2nd and 3rd convicted person also joined to assault the complainant.
The complainant, the prosecutor added, reported the matter at Sanyang Police Station, and she was escorted to the health centre where she was treated and discharged.
