13 prison officers arraigned, remanded

Thirteen prison officers were yesterday arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, and subsequently remanded in custody at the Mile 2 State Central Prison.

They are Musa Manneh, Lamin Jadama, Foday Ceesay, Salifu Drammeh, Yankuba Colley, Jankay Bojang, Jaye Camara, Binta Njie, Ebrima Keita, Yaya Camara, Jainaba Njie, Musa Touray and Abodulie Baldeh.

They were charged with three counts of office breaking, conspiracy to commit felony and stealing.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, the accused persons on 3rd April 2012, at Jeshwang Prison jointly broke into the office of the Deputy Commissioner with intent to commit a felony by stealing.

Count two stated that the accused persons conspired among themselves to commit a felony by stealing on 30 April 2012.

The particulars of offence on count three indicated that on the same day and at the same place, the accused persons stole the following items: D5, 500, 61 rounds of ammunition, 6 blank ammunition and 12 fuel coupons of Galp.

They all denied the charges, and were subsequently remanded at Mile 2.

The case was adjourned to 23 May 2012.
