Some Islamic organisations in the UK recently donated Dawah materials to the president of the Gambia Relief Agency, Sulayman Suntou Touray, who is also based in the UK, for distribution to individuals and institutions in The Gambia.

The organisations included the Islamic Mission, the Islamic Foundation and the IDCI.

According to Mr Touray, the payment for shipping of the materials was done by Muslim Hands.

He said the items were donated to foster a better understanding of Islam among Muslims and Non -Muslims alike and to avoid extremism of youth, adding that “if Gambians understand Islam adequately, no one will be able to radicalise them”.

He pointed out that this would facilitate a better understanding of Islam to non-Arabic speakers.

Mr Touray added that Muslim Hands was chosen to facilitate the smooth distribution of the materials donated because of its vast experiences in dealing with Gambian communities.

For his part, Ousman Bojang, senior manager at Muslim Hands The Gambia, said that since the arrival of the donated items, his organisation had started distributing the items to beneficiaries, noting that some individuals and organisations had received their items, such as Ousman Touray of the Upper River Region and Imam Abdoulie Fatty of State House.

He also said that the individuals and institutions to also benefit include Gambia College, Gambia Senior Secondary School, Dr Omar Jah junior of the University of The Gambia and Yankuba Ceesay of the Ministry of Tourism.

He noted that the items donated included English- Arabic Qurans.
