Ten
serving members of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) who were arrested in January
by personnel of the police Anti Crime Unit for their alleged involvement in robbery
and extortion are to face Court Martial; The Point has been reliably informed.
A
panel that was instituted by the GAF has recommended for the 10 non-commission
officers to either face Court Martial or to be summarily tried and to be
dismissed from the GAF, a source that spoke to The Point on the condition of
anonymity confirmed.
When
contacted for confirmation, the spokesperson of the GAF, Major Lamin K.
Sanyang, confirmed the development to our reporter, saying “the GAF is
currently under-going massive reforms, therefore, any soldiers that is involved
in anything that will tarnish the image of GAF will be dealt with accordingly.”
