Obedience triggers unexpected benefits or blessings when we refuse to look at our circumstances and cling to God's word.. God had sent prophet Elisha to bring relief to this widow who had lost her husband and feared that her husband's creditors would come and claim her two sons to serve as slaves - if the debt was not settled.
When asked, what she had at home, the widow replied: 'Your servant has nothing... except a little oil.' (v 2b)
Then she received the instruction. "Go around and ask your neighbours for empty jars. Don't ask for just a few. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side." (v3-4)
The oil stopped flowing when there was no empty jar left.
The widow then reported the matter to the prophet who. ordered her to sell the oil and pay her husband's debt, after which she and her sons could live out of what was left.
Out of her obedience, two birds were hit with one stone: her two boys were not taken as slaves and the family had enough to live on.
Life is not always about seeing is believing, but that believing is seeing. When was the last time you put into practice God's word spoken over your circumstances?
Remember this: "All things work together for good for those who love Him(God)....." (Rms 8:28)
