CAN A LEOPARD GET RID OF ITS SPOTS?

Jun 5, 2024, 1:08 PM

Until Adam and Eve committed sin, when they were duped by Satan and ate of the forbidden fruit, life for them was both pleasant and blissful in the Garden. Nothing was missing, nothing was broken, and everything remained intact just as God had desired it. Man sinned and God left the scene. Henceforth Adam and Eve were going to be on their own. Sadly, they lost their status when they were chased from the Garden following their disobedience.

Thus sin came into the world through the fault of Adam and Eve and since they were the original prototypes, all their offspring have become corrupted and defiled. Sin has wriggled its way into the very fabric of human beings, making sin a part of our everyday existence – something God is uncomfortable with. “There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…” (Romans 3:23)

Every person born of Adam into this world has sinned – with one exception Jesus, who was not born of Adam but of God. “You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”  (Psalm 46:6-7) “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21) “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth.” (1 Peter 2:22) Human blood was not found in Him.

Children are not taught to sin, they sin as per their nature. Begotten out of the line of Adam and Eve, they will automatically sin. Is there an issue out of this? Can a product of Adam and Eve shelve its sinful nature? No! Just like the leopard cannot get rid of its spots, human beings cannot. The spots on the leopard’s skin or the stripes on that of the zebra constitute the distinguishing marks from other animals of the same species. Nothing that they can do or will ever do can alter that. However, it would require another thorough operation that could bring about that change. Such a change cannot but be internal, not external. On the outside, the leopard will still bear its spots but from within after he fully understands the change that has been effected, he begins to operate under its full potential.

To better picture this, our Lord Jesus taught Nicodemus, a prominent religious leader of his day: “You must be born again.” (John 3:7) There must be a drastic change in our perspective, the way we look at life. A transformation ought to take place that will revolutionise our thinking and change our entire world. We have to be born this time out of our own volition. In other words, we must choose to operate as spirit beings and not be governed by the flesh. Once born of Adam, now we are born of God. Our hitherto dormant and inactive spirit would have to be revived and rekindled to live fully operating under our spiritual umbrella.

Our nature has been tied to sin, but God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to rid us of this cankerworm that has long deprived us of our status in Christ. This rescue mission all started in Bethlehem some 2000 years ago when God became flesh and dwelt among us in order “…to save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)

It is important that we do not lose sight of this. Being born into this world is an involuntary act. Our parents did not require our opinion to birth us. We were born in spite of ourselves. Jesus is saying that since we were born into our sinful nature we can discard it by being born voluntarily this time into our new nature, as new creatures. Accepting Christ transforms us into new creatures. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17) This new nature will not tie us down to sin. “Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.” (John 3:6)

Actually, we are spirit beings whose primary nature comes from God in whose image we were created. Our spirit man should take precedence over all that we do or think---but the reverse has been the case. Our bodies have submitted to our souls and the desires of our heart, making us slaves to sin. That influence must be broken, the tables turned over as we look to Jesus the Only One who has conquered sin. That is the reason He went to the cross----that sin will cease to have dominion over us.  Because He lived on earth without sin, when we believe in Him we also must be able to dominate sin. God saved us and called us to live a holy life. (2 Timothy 1:9)

Imagine someone who after an accident lost the use of both legs because they had been put in plaster for the bones to heal. For a long period that person has been immobilised or has ceased to walk. When s/he recovers it would mean starting all over again to learn how to walk----the re-education process. Our spirit being has to be re-educated, so we can live a full life. “… to all who received Him to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God-----children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” (John1:12)

Can a leopard change its spots? No! However despite its spots a great change can come about INTERNALLY when we begin to operate as spirit beings under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Make that change today! It will cost you nothing. Only believe!
