The ceremony was attended by activists, members of civil society and top government officials, and it was launched by Fatim Badjie and reviewed by Counsel Haddy Dandeh Njie.
Reviewing the book, Counsel Dandeh Njie, head of practice at Dandeh Jabbie Law Practice, described the book as one that talks about the society where women and girls are prices, looked at in a way that society judges them, looked at as figures that are to be judged at every stage of their lives, from the day they were born to the day they go to school, to the day they graduate and to the day they get husbands.
She hailed the book, which it said was well-researched and written based on established facts.
In her launching remarks, Fatim Badjie, CEO of ACE Communications Executive and former Minister of Communications, Information and Information Technology, described the book as a powerful reference and testimony for many individuals, especially young women in The Gambia, which also opens up conversation on crucial issues.
“It has a local and cultural context that can go a long way. It also highlights the problem of our social, cultural norms and also religion and tradition in our society,” she said.
The book ‘Her Virginity’ is one which explores real-life experiences of women and girls in societies.
