Speaking at the mega-award ceremony held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre, one Hady Drammeh said: “Our role in this world is not to be vulnerable. No. Society makes us weak and in turn makes us believe that we are meant to be weak. But the narrations we bring to the table have shown over and over again that we are the symbol of strength.”
“We continue to provide the She Awards platform to ensure that women and girls who are often victims of different forms of discrimination speak up”- She Awards founder, Ms Awa Gai, said.
Many women received awards. Mam Yasin Sarr received the Woman of the Year Award, which was received by one by Chilel Sowe on her behalf; Binta Werkman received Activist of the Year Award which was received on her behalf by Aminata Jaiteh. Lawkadinch S. Gomez also received Youth Excellence Award.
Dr. Satang Nabaneh, Dr. Awa Jah, Ngenarr-Yassin Jeng, Fanta K. Jawara of KJ Cupcakes and Ya Mallen Jagne were crowned Florence Mahoney Award for Women in Academia, Sise Sawaneh Award, STEM Award, Health Practitioner of the Year Award, Positive Social Influencer of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year Award and Emerging Writer of The Year Award respectively.
The Sise Sawaneh Award went to Penda bah whilst the STEM award went to Fatoumatta Jammeh respectively.
One Amie Jobe was conferred honorary recipient of the Legacy in Activism Award for all the activism she did for children’s welfare and rights, whilst Fatou Jagne Senghore was recognised as honorary recipient of The Legacy in Activism Award for her great work in Human Rights Activism.
