Thousands of wrestling fans and followers converged at the Independence Stadium on Sunday to witness a thrilling combat between Lekett Buu Barra and France of Banjul Saku Ham Ham in the grand combat, organised by Jam Promotion.

The Barra-based wrestler, Leket easily wrestled down his opponent France in a combat named after Senegalese iconic musician Youssou Ndour.

Prior to the battle, both wrestlers promised their fans a victory but it was Barra supporters who had their promise fulfilled by their wrestler.

In the freestyle wrestling, Baby Koloban defeated Baby Buwasor; Police Boy defeated Arsenal 2, while CFA of Club Tallinding Japoo drew against Volume of Club Ebo Town.

Gaindeh of Club Keebba Jome beat Bala Niamina of Abuko Mbolo in a traditional “roffo” style wrestling.

Meanwhile, in the wrestling fight with boxing, Chart of Ama Academy overpowered Euma Saine of Club Ndongo Ceesay; Sora of Club Mara beat Garga of Bundung Dorr Dorat, while Dorlima of Club Jabbang Mbolo beat Etoil of Club Nema Saku Ham Ham.

Amical of Club Roots defeated Boy Nyang of Serrekunda Mbolo, while Boga of Club Serrekunda Gum Ra Rew was beaten by Flex of Tallinding Mbolo in a special combat, just before Leket defeating France in the grand combat.

“The Gambia Wrestling Association should tie their belt and come up with stringent rules and regulation to ensure that some of the Senegalese wrestlers who come and disrespect the rules of the game in the past should not happen again,” said Matarr Saine, manager of Hoyontan and Club Ndongo Ceesay.

He called the Gambia government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports to assist them in their upcoming fight in Senegal.
