WAFCON qualifiers: Fatou Sonko, Fatou Kanteh steer Gambia to swaying win over Niger

Fatou Sonko and Fatou Kanteh guided The Gambia Women’s national team to a convincing 2-0 victory over Niger in their first-leg tie of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match played in Nimery yesterday.

Sonko and Kanteh scored the first and second goals for the Queen Scorpions in the first half of the match.

The Gambia Women’s national team now need a draw to snatch a spot in the next round of the qualifiers.

Niger must beat The Gambia Women’s national team 3-0 in their second-leg qualifier match without the Queen Scorpions replying to cruise to the next round of the qualifiers.
