‎"Since our maiden appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021 The Gambia has worked tirelessly to play sport at the forefront of our national development agenda through the Ministry of Sports.

The Government of The Gambia continues to invest in infrastructure, grassroots development and youth programmes.

“Our athletes have brought pride to our nation, and their achievements have been amplified by the tireless work of the sports press and Sports Journalist Association of the Gambia," VP Jallow said.

‎He added that AIPS congress is a critical moment in Africa's development journey, as the continent advances the implementation of Agenda 2063.

He further said African people want an agenda on good governance, democratic values, people-centred development and a strong African identity within the framework of sports and media recognised as powerful instruments for unity, youth empowerment and social transformation in Africa sport.

‎The Government of The Gambia has strengthened the Access to Information Act of 2021, he said, adding that this guarantees journalists and citizens the legal right to access public information to ensure effective implementation.

‎The Vice President also said that an independent Access to Information Commission has been established to promote compliance and safeguard respect.

‎He affirmed government's commitment to accountability, media empowerment and democratic governance in The Gambia.

‎"As you deliberate on the theme: Digital Media, AI and Ethical Support to Journalism in Africa, I encourage you to reflect deeply on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead," VP Jallow entreats all and sundry.

The Vice President emphasised that digital information has transformed telling stories with artificial intelligence, reshaping the media landscape as ethical journalism becomes more important than ever.

He said the discussions would no doubt influence administrators, coaches and athletes and help craft a better African sports narrative, adding that it is authentic, inspiring and impactful.

VP Jallow further pointed out that the AIPS congress would be the springboard for a more integrated African sports media landscape that champions Agenda 2063.
