Gambia’s minster of Youth and Sports, Bakay Y. Badjie, has said that the readiness of the current ongoing renovation and remodeling work at the Independence Stadium could only be determined by the consultants which is the Ministry of Transports, Work and Infrastructure.

Minister Badjie was responding to questions about when the current stadium renovation work will be ready to host Gambia’s home matches.

“The consultants, Ministry of Transports, Work and Infrastructure, who are the experts will have to look at the work scope to determine the period the stadium will be ready,” he said.

He added that there are other factors involved based on the explanations of the Works Ministry, to adding that the early arrivals of their materials ordered and shipment from their manufacturers could also determine the period of its early readiness.
According to him, they are not given a specific time when the work will be completed, adding that for this reason he may not be able to say anything about the grace period.

“When we are told the date by the experts, we will announce it. But our target is to be able to play our World Cup qualifiers at home,” he said. “How long would the work take, maybe it would be determined in a week or two when we get the full report from the Ministry of Works.”
