Serrekunda West male basketball team beat Kotu Blue Ninjas male team 85 set to 79 during the late final played on Saturday.
As winners, Serekunda West was awarded a giant trophy and will be handed a cash of D30, 000, while the runners up Kotu Blue Ninjas will be given a consolation prize of D20, 000.
Muhammed Kebbeh, captain for Serrekunda West male basketball team said they have been winning the tournament for about five years now.
“We came the same way since the first time we won the league trophy. Hard work has never stopped for us, not even once,” he said.
According to him, they train from Mondays to Fridays because they have a basketball academy. He added that during the game, Blue Ninjas were leading at some point but they never gave up.
Kebba Faal of Blue Ninjas said he was not happy with the loss after scoring an individual 35 points for his side.
He added that their intention was to win the double trophy, adding that this was their fourth final they lost against Serrekunda West.
Serrekunda West basketball female team defeated Kotu Blue Ninjas female team by 78 set to 70 during the early knockout final played at the Independence Stadium Basketball Court.
Fanta Minteh, forward player of Serrekunda West, who was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) expressed delight with lifting the trophy, adding that the success was gained due to their collectiveness.
Bintou Dambele, the forward player for Kotu Blue Ninjas female team, expressed pride with their performance despite losing the final.
“I would like to say that I came from nowhere to somewhere. From zero to hundred. I am so proud of the motivation I gave to myself which keeps me going and moving in this game,” she said.
