Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia (SJAG) has reacted to Colonel Musa Jammeh allegations.

Colonel Jammeh has accussed SJAG of bypassing the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) electrol committee before staging presidential candidates’ debate at the Paradise Suits Hotel last month.

According to SJAG, in 2018 Lamin Kaba had participated in the presidential debate when he was seeking a second term against Malick Sillah.

It states: “The organisers of the debate followed procedures and Kabba was represented by his then-campaign manager Sadibou Kamaso. When has this become a procedural issue?

“The GFF has absolutely no jurisdiction or say in how an independent journalists' association conducts its events.

“To suggest otherwise shows a serious lapse in better judgment.

SJAG has the autonomy to host public debates and forums for stakeholders, and is not required to seek formal approval from the GFF to proceed with its independent events.

“I expected you to know that.  In this interview, you have acknowledged the email. You never did! I had to text you privately to confirm if you had received it.

“Also, the invitations were sent since March, why wait till after the debate to come up with such an excuse when you have the right to decline and that will be respected.

“I have so many takeaways from your interview, but I will leave it at that for now with humility.”
