Serrekunda East male zonal team defeated Bakau Handball male zonal team 21-18 in a final played on Saturday to clinch the trophy at the Independence stadium Handball court.
As champions, Serrekunda East went home with a giant trophy with a cash prize of D10, 000, whilst runners-up, Bakau received a consolation prize of D7,000.
Bakau female handball team dismantled Serrekunda East female Handball team 19-7 to clinch the female category trophy in the early game.
As champions, Bakau female handball team went home with a giant trophy and a cash prize of D10,000 while runners-up Serrekunda East female team pocketed home D7,000.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the finals, the captain of Serrekunda East, Pa Alieu Njie, expressed delights for winning the trophy.
Captain of Bakau female handball team, Manyima Colley said she was very excited for winning the trophy.
President of The Gambia Handball Association, Momodou Suwareh, applauded stakeholders for supporting his association especially Lamin King Colley.
"This is the first tournament we have organised and are very happy that it's smooth completed," he stated.
He called on all stakeholders to come on board and support the association, adding that they are currently gearing up for a nationwide tour to promote handball in the country.
