According to information relayed by Dsport, this decision was communicated to the president of the Senegalese Football Federation, Augustin Senghor, after his return from Saudi Arabia, where he had attended the final of the CAF Super Cup. The latter then informed Aliou Cissé of the decision by telephone.

In his discussions with Senghor, the former Lions coach declared that he had made the decision “with philosophy, haughtiness and grandeur’’. This announcement marks the end of the Aliou Cissé era, who had led Senegal to victory in the African Cup in 2021 and to a World Cup final in 2022, but who was overtaken by the disappointed expectations of supporters after the recent elimination.
