Senegalese senior national team coach Aliou Cisse fired

Oct 3, 2024, 11:10 AM

After nearly a decade at the helm of the Senegal national football team, Aliou Cissé has been dismissed from his position, Senegalese media sources reported on Wednesday.

Aliou Cissé's contract will not be renewed.

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) had initially considered a one-year extension, but the Ministry of Sports, third party payer, expressed its disagreement in a “confidential letter” addressed to the body, which was forced to part ways with the former captain of the Lions, appointed coach in 2015.
It should be noted coach Aliou Cisse was earning 30 million CFA per month which is equivalent (D3, 510,000), which the new Senegalese authorities said was too much and his salary should be reduced but he (Cisse’) disagreed.
Aliou Cissé will no longer be the coach of the Senegal Lions.

This decision follows the premature elimination of the national team in the round of 16 of the last African Cup of Nations.

The minister of Sports made the decision not to renew Cissé's contract, thus ending his mandate.
According to information relayed by Dsport, this decision was communicated to the president of the Senegalese Football Federation, Augustin Senghor, after his return from Saudi Arabia, where he had attended the final of the CAF Super Cup. The latter then informed Aliou Cissé of the decision by telephone.
Faced with this news, Aliou Cissé showed calm and dignity.

In his discussions with Senghor, the former Lions coach declared that he had made the decision “with philosophy, haughtiness and grandeur’’. He added that Senegal's interest must take precedence above all else, and that the authorities had made this decision in full knowledge of the facts, believing that they had their reasons.
This announcement marks the end of the Aliou Cissé era, who had led Senegal to victory in the African Cup in 2021 and to a World Cup final in 2022, but who was overtaken by the disappointed expectations of supporters after the recent elimination.

Football-End of course for AliouCissé: The FSF confirms his departure and announces an interim staff the departure of Aliou Cissé, first reported by Sud Quotidien, was confirmed in a press release from the Senegalese Football Federation this Wednesday, October 2, which specified that this decision followed a directive from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture.

Leral.netwiwsport. also announced Cissé's contrat had expired, will not be extended, according to information confirmed by the FSF which also announced the establishment of an interim technical staff to manage the national team during the window of October matches.

According to the letter sent by Minister Khady Diène Gaye to the FSF, several reasons justify this decision, in particular the inability to achieve the objectives set, such as victory at CAN 2023 and qualification for the quarter-finals of the Coupe du World 2022.

Other elements include the team's fall in the FIFA rankings and a risk of disaffection between the national team and Senegalese supporters.

The FSF therefore took note of this decision, specifying that Cissé was no longer under contract with the State of Senegal and that he could no longer continue to lead the selection.

According to our colleagues, she also announced the cancellation of the press conference initially planned for the presentation of the list of players for the double confrontation against Malawi, specifying that the list would be published online. the interim staff will be responsible for leading the Lions towards the qualifying phase for CAN 2025.
