Nema United started the evening lingering around the foot of the table, knowing anything less than maximum points would be a blow heading to the final game of the season.
The game started in a very high tempo, but both sides failed to create clear-cut chances until the 30th minute when captain Lamin Sibi’s well taken corner was headed home by Nema United giant midfielder Yusupha Bojang leading to wild scenes of celebrations.
Sukuta United from then on up the tempo of the game and in the 67th minute got the goal they have been crafting.
When tempers began boiling and some supporters started heading home Lamin Sibi whacked a free-kick beyond the keeper’s reach and in to the top right corner. He (Lamin Sibi) ran the length of the pitch to celebrate his goal with the fans.
Lamin Sibi told Pointsports that the moment the free-kick was awarded he knew he would score. “I told my colleagues I will score it. We prepared well for the game this week and were confident that we will win’’.
Aziz Joof, Sukuta United gaffer, said he has the best team in the Third Division. He, however, urged referees to be on top of their game.
“The referee was very harsh on us. West Coast need to improve in terms of referees capacities,’’ he said.
Abdoulie Marong, head coach of Nema United, said his team was fighting to avoid relegation, and therefore underlines how vital collecting the maximum points against Sukuta United was.
Marong assured fans that they would continue to give their all to ensure they stay in the league and fight for promotion next season.
