Kuloro Utd crowned champions of KEDSC tournament

Kuloro United were on Saturday crowned champions of the 2023-2024 Kombo East District Sports Committee (KEDSC)  football tournament following their post-match penalty shootouts win over Basori United after regulation time ended goalless in a keenly-contested final played at the Kafuta Mini Stadium.

The historic final was graced by some high profile dignitaries including the chairman of Brikama Area Council, Yankuba Darboe, Manager of Samakairo Federation, Sunkarry Jatta and Councillor for Pirang Ward, Lamin Dibba.

The final was sponsored by Brikama Area Council, Samakairo Federation and National Assembly Member for Kombo East Constituency.

The tightly-contested match saw both sides created limited goal scoring opportunities but regular time failed to produce a winner.

This pushed the match into penalty shootouts, which ended in favour of Kuloro United.

As champions, Kuloro United went home with a giant trophy and a cash prize of D40, 000 while Basori United received D30, 000 as runners-up.

Head coach of Kuloro United Buba Ceesay received the best coach of the tournament award, while Ousman Ceesay of Kuloro United was awarded as the best goalkeeper and Man of the Match.

Sarjo Bojang of Kuloro United was named the best defender of the tournament, while the best player of the tournament award went to Ebrima Dampha of Basori United.

Head coach of Basori United Modou Lamin Jarju was awarded the most discipline coach of the tournament, while Abdoulie Ceesay of Faraba Bantan received the best young player of the tournament award.

 Faraba Banta received the best fan club award, while the most outstanding striker of the tournament award went to Patrick Demba of Faraba Banta.

Amadou Tamba of Sotokoi and Yankuba Jallow of Ajax FC were named joint top scorers of the tournament with 6 goals each, while Amadou Tamba was awarded as the best midfielder of the tournament.

 Jiboroh Koto FC was awarded as the most discipline team of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Kuloro United became the first team in the history of the Kombo East District football tournament to clinch the Kombo East District biggest football jamboree league trophy four times in 2006, 2008, 2021 and 2024.

Basori won their first Kombo East District football tournament league title in 2018.

The Basori boys also won the Kombo East District football tournament knock out trophy in 2021 and the Super Cup trophy in 2022.
