Haruna Jabang, head coach of Medina FC has expressed delight with his team’s triumph of the Serrekunda East Sports Development Organisation (SESDO) Knockout Cup trophy.

Medina FC clinched the 2023 Africell-sponsored SESDO nawetan Knockout trophy following their 3-0 thrashing of United Stars in a mouth-watering final played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on Friday.

Goals from Ansumana Kujabi, Lamin Badjie and Ansumana Saho in the 4th, 31st and 80th minutes respectively were enough to earn Medina FC the crown.

"We won the final because of our game plan. It was a deserved win because we won the Knockout trophy unbeaten,” he stated.

Coach Jabang however expressed disappointment that they were booted out of the League competition despite collecting 8 points from their group.

"This compelled us to put our house in order to ensure we win the Knockout Cup trophy. Thank God we achieved that," he also said.

He added that they switched their tactics for the final knowing that they can only beat United Stars by running with the ball.

"I told my players that this was their chance to write their names in history books of Medina FC by being the first batch of players to clinch the Knockout Cup trophy unbeaten. They did so in dramatic fashion," he said while commending his players.

Coach Jabang applauded his goal machine, Ansumana Kujabi for scoring in all their Knockout Cup games en route to the final.

Alagie Korta, team rep for United Stars FC said they played a very bad game but was quick to add that in football you either win or lose. He congratulated Medina FC for their deserved win.

As champions, Medina FC FC received a giant trophy, medals and a cash prize of D40,000 while United Stars FC received D30, 000 as runners-up.
