According to the Gambia Wrestling Association in a statement, the season under review has been largely successful as the Gambia won a total of five (5) medals in international competitions, winning a historic gold medal in African Beach Games and two bronze medals in African Wrestling Championship as well as gold and silver medal in the ECOWAS Traditional Wrestling Championship.
The GWA also conducted numerous capacity building programmes, key among which was a 6-day level one international coaching course and basic first aid training for coaches, medics and referees.
“GWA under the leadership of Shering Modou Faye also launched twenty-five (25) metal barriers to ease the burden on Promoters. The GWA officially recorded thirty-one (31) wrestling events (face to face and event) in the season under review,” the association further said, expressing its profound gratitude to all its stakeholders and partners for making the 2022-2023 season a memorable one for everyone involved.
The association went on to thank the Youth and Sports Ministry, National Sports Council, Gambia National Olympic Committee and the National Centre for Arts and Culture for their tremendous support.
The association in their statement also thanked and appreciated the efforts of the media for their efforts in disseminating information.
They also thanked promoters, clubs, wrestlers, managers, club presidents and coaches.
