GSSSA to introduce medal system in 2025 inter-school athletics championship - Ceesay

The president of The Gambia Secondary School Sports Association (GSSSA), Ismaila Ceesay, has told the media that his association will introduce medal system in the 2025 national inter-school athletics championship.

Ceesay was speaking during a press conference held at The Gambia Teachers Cooperate Credit Union in Kanifing yesterday.

He revealed that the reason for introducing medal system in this year's championship is to meet international standards.

Ceesay added that they are not going to give out points to schools in this year's inter-school athletics championship, adding that they are now moving to new system of giving out points.

The system we are go to use in this year's championship is medal system," Ceesay explained. 

Ceesay stated that school with more medals will be announced as the winners of this year’s inter-school athletics championship. 

He briefed the media about the new inclusions in this year’s inter-school athletics championship.

Ceesay pointed out that both Central River Region North and South will participate separately, adding that schools in the Central River Region north will use Kaur Senior Secondary School Football Field for their inter-school athletics heats.

He further pointed out that schools in the Central River Region south will use Bansang Senior Secondary School Football Field for their regional inter-school athletics heats. 

According to Ceesay, Foni will be separate from the West Coast Region, adding that they will now participate a lone in this year’s regional inter-school athletics heat. 

Ceesay revealed that his association is working hand-in-glove with Primary School Sports Association (PSSA) to form one athletics sport federation for the well-being of students and the betterment of the country. 

He further revealed that they are not going to compromise with the rules and regulations, adding that any schools found guilty of cheating will be punished. 

Meanwhile, Diaspora athletes yesterday donated communication gargets to The Gambia Secondary School Sports Association (GSSSA) to enhance the association during the course of this year’s inter-school athletics competition.
