Ebou Faye, the 2nd vice president of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) and also the manager of the Independence Stadium has said that the Football House was not partially involved in the current ongoing renovation and remodeling work of the stadium.

“The GFF was not involved partially in the stadium renovation,” Mr. Faye said, acknowledging that was a mistake.

Mr. Ebou Faye was speaking in an interview while giving an update on the ongoing regarding the renovation at Independence Stadium.

According to Mr. Faye, there is no mistake in the ongoing work as alluded to by some people, adding that what the CAF representative did when he visited the country was to advise for some adjustments and also move certain areas.

“We have already identified places for the areas he advised to be improved. We have technical meetings and hopefully things will be sorted out within two months’ time before our next game in November.”

Asked about why the GFF preferred to play Gambia’s game against Congo in Morocco than Senegal, he responded that Senegal would be playing on the 9th and 12th of September, while The Gambia wants to play on September 10.

“So, the only available days for The Gambia to play are on the 4th-7th September and FIFA dates start from 4th-12th September. So, if you look at the 4th to the 12th in three days and you cannot assemble all the players within those three days, prepare for the match and play.”

He added that this is too short, noting that this is why they are going to Morocco to have enough time to train, assemble the players and play the match.

“It’s difficult to play in Senegal, because they have only one stadium now and that’s where the Senegalese national team will be playing. This is the technical reason and nothing else. If Senegal was available, we would’ve played in Senegal.”
