GFF launches FIFA U-17 Girls League Development Programme

The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) on Saturday launched the GFF/FIFA U-17 Girls League Development Programme at the National Technical Training Centre in Old Yundum.

The launching ceremony was presided over by First-Vice President of the GFF Bakary K. Jammeh.

Jammeh described the launching as a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening grassroots and youth football across the country.

He added that the U-17 League Development Programme will cover all seven regions of the country, with a total of 25 teams expected to take part.

The programme would create opportunities for hundreds of young players to actively participate in organized football competitions,” Jammeh said.

Jammeh stated that the initiative demonstrates the commitment of the GFF to ensure that football development reaches every corner of the nation.

 He commended the support of WAFU-A, CAF and FIFA in realising this programme.

Jammeh called on aspiring players to remain disciplined, committed, and work hard.

He thanked FIFA, CAF, and WAFU-A, the GFF Executive Members, Staff, Regional Football Associations, Partners, Sponsors, Coaches, volunteers and all Stakeholders whose support and dedication made the initiative possible.

"This programme also reflects our commitment to the catch them young' philosophy, which focuses on developing players at an early age through proper guidance, coaching, and competition," Jammeh said.

The colourful ceremony, chaired by the GFF General Secretary Lamin M Jassey, was attended by Executive Committee Members of GFF, representatives from WAFU-A, Schools, Regional Coaches and Girls.

The GFF/FIFA U-17 Girls League Development Programmme's competition proper will kick off next month.

 The programme is expected to run for the next three months.
