The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) has extended its warmest congratulation to Pap Saine after being honoured with journalist on Podium Award by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Africa.

This prestigious recognition was conferred upon Saine during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, celebrating his extraordinary career and his presence at more than a dozen AFCON editions and numerous global sporting tournaments.

Saine, a veteran media chief and a titan of the African press, has long been regarded as a symbol of modern Gambian journalism. His career, spanning several decades, has been defined by an unwavering commitment to truth, excellence, and the promotion of sports.

In a statement following the announcement, GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo lauded Saine as a trailblazer whose influence extends far beyond the newsroom.

"Saine is the epitome of professionalism and dedication.

His indefatigable spirit and passion for the beautiful game have made him a household name across the continent," President Bajo stated.

"This award is a fitting tribute to a man who has dedicated his life to documenting the history of Gambian and African sports. His contribution to the development of football in The Gambia is immense, providing a platform and a voice for our national teams and athletes on the global stage."

The "Journalist on the Podium" award is reserved for a select group of media professionals who have demonstrated remarkable longevity and consistency in covering a minimum of 10 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

For Saine, this accolade serves as a testament to his resilience and his role as a mentor to generations of journalists within the sub-region.

The GFF recognizes Saine’s tireless efforts in ensuring that Gambian football remains in the international spotlight.

His presence at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco continues a storied tradition of excellence that has inspired many.

"We join the rest of the nation and African sports community in celebrating this historic milestone.

We wish Saine continued health and success as he continues to fly the Gambian flag high in the world of sports journalism," the GFF said.
