Gambian youth have continued to drive social welfare by engaging in community development, civic leadership and vocational skills programmes as outlined in the National Youth Policy 2019-2028.

Young people form the backbone of the population, making up over 40% of the country. 

They work to reduce poverty, support vulnerable groups, and build stronger communities.

Programmes such as National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS) teach young people practical trades such as farming, IT, plumbing and tailoring.

The Vulnerable Youth and Women Support Project (VYWOSP) helps rural youth get jobs and better access to health and education services.

The Gambia youth empowerment scheme provides business training and money support to help young entrepreneurs start local businesses.

Youth groups lead local health campaigns, climate action, and peer mentoring to solve social problems.

Meanwhile, Gambian youth actively promote social welfare through community leadership, vocational programmes, and national development initiatives outlined in the National Youth Policy of The Gambia (2019–2028).

Young people form the backbone of community support, driving economic and social change across the country.
