Gambia women's team to participate in WAFU Zone A tourney

The Gambia National Women's team, Queen Scorpions, on Monday began training ahead of the forthcoming West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone A Women's tournament to be held in Cape Verde in 2023.

Head coach Mariama ‘Bom’ Sowe has assembled a provisional list of 29 players who commenced training at the National Technical Training Centre in Old Yundum on Monday 9 January 2023. 

The daily training, aimed at honing the skills of her team, will wrap up next week ahead of the sub-regional tournament set to run from 20 January to 1 February 2023. 

The first edition of the tournament was held in Sierra Leone in 2020, with Senegal emerging as champions. 

The Gambia will resurface for the second time and prepare a formidable squad to face off with the big guns throughout the tournament. 

Provisional List: 

Goalkeepers:  Aminata Gaye - Police FC, Matty Manga - Abuko United, Mariama Ceesay - Red Scorpions, Ramatoulie Dukureh - City Girls FC, and Fatou Kine Mendy - Berewuleng. 

Defenders: Ruggy Joof - Determine Girls (Liberia),  Bintou Ceesay - Police FC, Ellen Gai - City Girls, Wuday Colley - Greater Tomorrow, Sally Ceesay - Police FC, Fatou Fatty - Red Scorpions, Fatoumatta Mook - Police FC, Fatou Lowe - Police FC, and Juwana Colley - Koita FC.

Midfielders: Awa Tamba - (Senegal), Metta Sanneh - Police FC, Kaddy Jatta - Red Scorpions, Kadijatou Bayo - Red Scorpions, Mamie Sey - Police FC, and Jabou Jobarteh - Police FC. 

Forwards: Ola Buwaro - Red Scorpions, Mam Drammeh - (Senegal), Kumba Kuyateh - Red Scorpions, Fatoumatta Sowe - Police FC, Catherine Jatta - Police FC, Kaddy Jarju - Future Bi, Teddy Serreh Jatta – Berewuleng,  Fatoumatta Jammeh - Red Scorpions, and Mbassy Darboe - Determine Girls (Liberia)
