Gambia U-20 striker Modou Bojang has signed a one-year contract with Portuguese top flight side Boavista FC with an option to extend beyond the current agreement.

The powerful striker arrived in Portugal this week and will be training with the club’s U-23 side for the rest of the season that still has one month left to run out.

He will then join the first team side of the Estádio do Bessa outfit for pre-season ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Speaking to www.gambiaff.org, Bojang, who goes by his sobriquet Major, disclosed that he had received several offers from teams in Spain, Italy, Germany and Turkey but opted for Jesualdo Ferreira’s side as a stepping stone to climb through the professional ladder.

“I had other options but I chose to come to Boavista FC because I want to take it in sequence step by step.

I don’t want to rush in my development as a young player. I’m very happy, appreciative and content with the contract,” he said.

He reiterated that he has higher targets and ambitions, the ex-Brikama United forward expressed love for the new environment, describing it as conducive.

“My target is to further play in top clubs around France, Italy, Spain, Germany and others.

I’m living in a very good condition and everything is going fine with me here.”

Bojang scored the highest goals for the Young Scorpions as the Gambian team won bronze medal at this year’s African U-20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania with three goals.

This brilliant performance was preceded by a similar exhibition in Senegal where he helped the team to win the WAFU Zone A championship in November 2020.

He expressed gratitude to his family, former teams and teammates, coaches as well as Gambians for the love and support accorded to him in his development.

Reacting to the news, Young Scorpions gaffer Matarr M’Boge was full of praises for the striker, describing it as a deserved opportunity.

“It’s always a source of great joy whenever you see a Gambian player sign professional terms.

But knowing the lad and what he has gone through to get to this level, I can only say that there is an added sense of pride and he has really deserved this opportunity,” M’Boge affirmed.
