Gambia U-20 return home after clasping bronze medals in WAFU Zone U-20

The Gambia U-20 team returned home from Monrovia, Liberia, after clasping bronze medals in the 2024 WAFU U-20 football tournament.

The Young Scorpions won bronze medals in the sub-regional cadet biggest football showpiece after thrashing Guinea Conakry 3-0 in their third-place play-off match played at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Coach Abdoulie Bojang and his U-20 charges failed to secure qualification to the 2024 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations after losing to Sierra Leone 3-0 in their semi-final match.

The Gambia U-20 team qualified for the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in 2021 and 2023 respectively.

The Young Scorpions finished as third-place holder in the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations following their 4-2 post-match penalty shootouts win over Tunisia after regulation time failed to produce a winner.

The Gambia U-20 team finished as runners-up in the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations after slipping to Senegal U-20 team 2-0 in a final played at the Cairo International Stadium in Egypt.
