Gambia Para sports meets Korean counterparts

The relationship between the National Paralympic Committee of Korea and The Gambia National Paralympic Committee has made further progress as the top leaders of the two countries meets at the Tokyo Paralympic games to discuss issues regarding Para Sports development in The Gambia.

Sulayman Colley, president of The Gambia National Paralympic Committee (GNPC) met with Yang Choongyeon, secretary general of Korea Paralympic Committee in Tokyo, the host city of the 16 Summer Paralympic Games yesterday, Monday.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Colley highlighted the importance of capacity building for his committee members and said it will help Gambia to promote Para Sports across the country. Colley said the two sides can learn from each other in terms of promoting disability sports.

Gambia’s 5-man delegation safely arrived in Japan and settled in the games village last Friday.

The 16th summer Paralympics Games is scheduled to start today, Tuesday 24th August 2021, with a mind-blowing opening ceremony which will be done by Emperor Naruhito, at the Olympics Stadium in Tokyo.

About 4,521 athletes will be competing in 540 events in 22 sports across different venues with the games set to last for 2 weeks, without spectators due to the rise in Covid-19 cases in Japan.
