The Gambia senior national team have made a massive move in the latest  FIFA World Rankings released by the global football governing body yesterday.

The Scorpions moved up eight spots to rank 115 worldwide and four spots in Africa to 30th on the continent for September 2025.

Johnathan McKinstry’s team was ranked 123rd and 34th, respectively, in the July 2025 ranking.

The Gambia secured a 3-1 win over Kenya and followed that up with another dominant display in a 2-0 win over Burundi, jumping to third-place in Group F of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with more two rounds of matches to be played next month.

The results saw The Gambia secure 1165.93 points, up from 1141.36 points, a leap of 25.57 points.

The Scorpions are currently on a run of four matches without defeat, date back to June this year when they defeated and drew against Equatorial Guinea and Uganda respectively.

The current upward trajectory is linked to these four results.

The victories would go a long way in determining the type of draw for the Scorpions ahead of the 2027 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
