Elite United’s striker Alieu Barry scored the only goal of the match for the Scorpions to help The Gambia local based team collect the maximum points against their opponents, Bissau.
“We did not say that we are better than Guinea Bissau because they played very well during the second period. But we are going to come up with a different strategy in the second game. We are not going to expose the team but rather to base on counter-attack and Insha’Allah, we will come victorious on Tuesday,” said The Gambia CHAN Team Coach Alagie Sarr.
He added that they played very well against the Bissau Guineans especially during the first period, adding that because of the weather in Morocco his players could not have the strength to move on.
“We did not train properly during our preparations in Banjul. We could not make it very well because of the ongoing GFF league matches. So I think that was what disturbed the team in the second half.”
According to him, they resumed training yesterday, Sunday evening, adding that they will also hold a tactical meeting with players after knowing how tactically their opponents are.
He went on to thank his technical team, Senior Scorpions Head Coach Tom Saintfiet and GFF president Lamin Kaba Bajo for their motivation.
The two teams will square off in the deciding leg tomorrow, Tuesday 26th July 2022 at Stade de Marrakech at 3pm.
