Gambia announces team for African Games

A squad of more than 100 athletes and officials will fly Gambia’s flag at the 2023 African Games to be held in Accra, Ghana.
According to the National Sport Council (NYC), the competition is expected to begin on 8 March and finish on 23 March 2024.

The team comprises an athletics team, swimming, judo, taekwondo, beach volleyball (male and female), volleyball (male and female), wrestling, and football (U20), making it the biggest ever delegation from the Gambia to any games.

The African games, widely referred to as Accra 2023, is an important multi-sport event and the biggest sporting event on the continent of Africa held every four years.

Superstar Gina Bass will lead a contingent that seems ready to win medals, as the beach volleyball duo opting to defend the title they won at the 2019 edition in Rabat.

Judoka Faye Njie and taekwondo star Alasan Ann are other top athletes that are ready for the task, and the indoor volleyball teams appearing in their first African Games.

The delegation is expected to leave the shores on 6 and 7 March 2024.

The opening ceremony is slated for 8 March 2024 at University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
