The football championship will feature six settlements within Kombo South.
Beneficiary villages are Brufut, Batokokunku, Tujereng, Sanyang, Gungur and Kartong.
Each of the communities received 25,000 as part of preparation for the competition.
Cherno Njie, Tujereng Village Development Committee (VDC) chairman, welcomed the gesture he described as timely. He added that the initiative will connect contesting communities and make them one family.
Mafugi Ceesay, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for GACH Global Mining Company, said football is the fastest way of bring people together, unite them as well as bring peace and stability among communities. He described peace as priceless.
Mr. Ceesay advised participating community to show high sense of discipline throughout the championship for their own well-being and betterment of the company.
Amadou Manneh, the site manager for the company, said the football championship is part of their agreement with the communities they carry out mining activities.
Mr. Manneh has disclosed that the winner of the competition will receive D150,000, while the runner up will go home with D100,000.
Third place will get D50,000. Best player, best goalkeeper and the leading goal scorer will each pocket home D10,000.
Fabakary Marena, the President of Tujereng Sports Committee (TSC) and Chairman of the GACH Global Mining Company football championship gave assurance that the competition will be conducted in a peaceful environment. However, he advised participating teams to adhere to the rules and regulations of the game.
