Update on Gambian players abroad

Gambian players plying their trade abroad have continued their wonderful performance for their clubs as Ali Sowe, Assan Ceesay and Ablie Jallow scored for their respective clubs over the weekend.

Ali Sowe scored the only goal for his side, MKE Ankaragücü during their 2-1 defeat away to Fenerbahçe in the Turkish Premier League played on Saturday.

The 28-year-old broke the deadlock for the away team in the 80th minute but the host scored in the 87th and 90+6 to earn the victory. 

The Scorpions striker, Ali Sowe has now scored 10 goals and provided three assists in 25 matches for MKE Ankaragücü in the Turkish League.

Elsewhere, Ablie Jallow scored a fantastic goal during his French Second Tier side, FC Metz’s 3-0 win over Bordeaux during a match played at the Stade Saint-Symphorien in the French League 2 on Saturday.

The 24-year-old opened the scoring for his side in the 49th minute before Georges Mikautadze’s brace in the 52nd and 72nd minutes respectively.

‘Germano’ as he is fondly called has now scored 5 goals in 27 matches in the French Second Tier League.

Metz is a point shy away from second place Bordeaux and 6 points adrift of League leaders, Le Havre.

Ablie Jallow created the most chances (2) in the match and put together 93% pass accuracy.

Assan Ceesay scored a blistering goal during his Italian side U.S. Lecce 1-1 draw against struggling side U.C. Sampdoria during a game played at the Stadio Comunale Via del Mare on Sunday.

The 29-year-old gave his side the lead in the 31st minute before the visitors leveled through Jese in the 75th minute.

The former Gamtel and Zurich talisman has now scored 5 goals in 26 games for Lecce in the Italian Serie A.
