Skipper Pateh Manneh scored for Deago FC during the match, while Pa Faye netted for Kong Bi FC in the match.
This pushed the match into post-match penalty shootouts, which ended 5-3 in favour of Deago FC.
As winners, Deago FC went home with a giant trophy, medals, a certificate and a cash prize of D6000 while Kong Bi FC received medals, a certificate and D D4000 as runners-up.
The kick-off was taken by the chief of Bussumbala District Lamin Touray.
Minister of Youth and Sports Bakary Y. Badjie presented certificates of appreciation to deserving individuals on behalf of the association.
The fitness tournament was organised by Tripoli Family Association in collaboration with Banjulinding Sports Committee.
The championship brought together seven (7) teams within Banjulinding.
All other teams that participated in the fitness tournament received a certificate each for their participation in the fitness tournament.
Tripoli Family Association donated a trophy to the Banjulinding Sports Committee.
Vice president of Tripoli Family Association, Mamadou Lamin Jarju, explained that he was the first president of Tripoli in 1985 when he was in a football team until he stopped playing football and started the association.
He added that Lamin Colley is currently the president of the association and coordinated the association’s activities in the United States of America (USA) where he is living.
He said he does the same in The Gambia as the vice president.
Jarju stated that each year they have uranium in their sisters’ house and also visited one of their association members before attending the football final.
According to him, they organised the fitness tournament purposely to bring unity among youth particularly people residing in Banjulinding.
He advised all Gambians especially young people to come together, work together, live together and focus in the development of The Gambia.
‘‘As Gambians, our focus should be what we can do for The Gambia and not what The Gambia can do for us,’’Jarju said.
Jarju described youth as the backbone of the country.
Chief of Bussumbala District, Lamin Touray, stated that the tournament it signifies that the association members have not forgotten where they came from.
He thanked them for giving back to their community.
Touray described unity as very important, saying that anybody promoting it is also promoting the peace of the country.
“Such initiative keeps youth out of mischief because an idle mind is the mind that thinks of evil,” he said, noting that through the tournament, some players can become professional footballers thereby benefiting their families, community and the country at large.
