Abdoulie Bojang, the head coach of The Gambia U-20 team has said that despite already qualifying for the quarterfinals stage of the Africa U-20 Championship, there will be no room for complacency as they take on Benin today – Monday – in their final Group C match of the ongoing competition in Egypt.

The Gambia has already qualified for the quarterfinals with today’s game to spare after winning their two consecutive group matches against Tunisia and Zambia.

The Gambia U-20 team defeated Tunisia 1-0 in their opening Group C game on Tuesday before beating Zambia 2-0 on Friday.

Meanwhile, a win for Benin against The Gambia today will see the Young Cheetahs also progress into the quarterfinals stage as they currently sit 2nd position in the group with 2 points.

“There can be no room for complacency. We will treat Benin like any other team,” said coach Abdoulie Bojang in a pre-match interview.

Coach Lie Bojang, whose Young Scorpions side is among the few teams yet to concede a goal in the tournament, said there will be changes in his team’s lineup as there are players with yellow cards and knocks who will be rested to give opportunity to other players to exhibit their talents too.

“Every player in the squad is important but every 18-man squad for each match depends on the tactical approach of that game,” he said.
