Head of Coach T. Town FC, Fanding Badjie, has applauded his players for their brilliant performance during the final of the 2023 Africell-Sponsored Serrekunda East Sports Development Organisation (SESDO) ‘newettan’ league final played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on Sunday.

Coach Badjie was speaking to journalists shortly after his side’s 2-1 win over Leeds United at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.

“I’m very happy because I was expecting a win. I know that we are going to win,’’ Coach Badjie said.

Coach Badjie thanked everyone at Tallinding for rallying behind the team during the final, adding that the team is named after Tallinding.

He also thanked his neighbours Medina FC for winning the knockout trophy in the Serrekunda East nawettan this year.

He revealed that Leeds United defeated them 2-0 during their first nawettan appearance, adding that last year they too defeated them 1-0.

‘‘This year they defeated us on post-match penalty shootouts during the knockout match.

‘‘I told my boys that we are  not going to allow them to beat us twice and their game plan was to stop their attacks and finish them during the first half, which has paid dividend for them.

‘‘It’s a great achievement more especially for me because this is our first final with T. Town FC,’’ Coach Badjie pointed out.

MoLamin Sarr opened the scored for T. Town in the 9th minute of the match before Babucarr Ndow extended their lead in the 27th minute to earn the Tallinding base-team a resounding victory over Leeds United.

Lamin Bajinka’s 80th minute strike only proved to be a consolation goal for Leeds United.

As champions, T. Town went home with a giant trophy, medals and a cash prize of D70, 000 while Leeds United received 50,000 as runners-up.
