Cameroon eliminates Gambia in AWCON qualifiers

The Gambia national women's team was on Wednesday eliminated by Cameroon from the African Women's Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers following a 2-1 defeat at the Independence Stadium.

The win earns Cameroon a place at the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) to be held in Morocco.

Aboudi Onguene Gabrielle opened the scores for the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in the 8th minute from a simple tap after connecting with a lovely cross from Alice Flore Kameni Djientieu. Cameroon doubles their lead through Kavine Ossol in the 33rd minute of the game.

 The Gambia pulled one back courtesy of Catherine Jatta in 52nd minutes of game from superb free-kick thus the game ended 2-1 in favour of Cameroon.

Cameroon hammered the Queen Scorpions 8-0 during their first leg of the qualifiers played at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé.

Cameroon advanced to the African Women's Cup of Nations (AWCON) thanks to a 10-1 aggregate over The Gambia.
