The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) until October 2021.

A letter circulated by the continent’s football governing body stated that it has decided to postpone the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers until October this year.

According to CAF Organising Committee of Women Football, the decision to postpone the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations was in line with the postponement of the 2022 Men World Cup qualifiers.

“The reasons for the postponement of the qualifiers were based on the conditions of certain stadiums in Africa and the restrictions related to Covid-19.”

“The first round matches will now take place in the FIFA window of 18 to 26 October 2021 and the second round matches will be played in the FIFA window of 14 to 23 February 2022.”

Coach Mariama Bom Sowe on Tuesday night announced her 28-women squad for the qualifiers.
