The Gambia National Beach Volleyball teams on Tuesday presented a trophy, gold and silver medals to the Hon. Minister of Youth and Sports Bakary Y. Badjie at a ceremony held at his office in Banjul.

The teams, who were in Guinea Bissau to compete in the just concluded Zone II beach volleyball championship, were accompanied to the Ministry’s office by the Executive Director of the National Sport Council Marcel Mendy.

Receiving the delegation, Minister Badjie congratulated the teams and thanked them for representing The Gambia with distinction by winning gold (male team) and silver (female team) medals.

“You can be assured of our continuous support as a Ministry. We will surely continue to support all national teams," Minister Badjie stated.

He commended the players and association and urged them to continue to work hard and do their utmost best whenever they represent The Gambia.

Ndey Marie Njie, the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sport also urged the team to continue to work hard in order to be able to maintain the momentum.

Marchel Mendy for his part paid tribute to the Gambia Volleyball Association for what he described “dedication, hard work and transparency.”

He encouraged them to always operate in accordance with their constitution and in the best interest of the country.

Bai Dodou Jallow, the president of The Gambia Volleyball Association, commended the Ministry of Youth and Sport and the National Sports Council for what he described as their “unflinching support” towards the development of Gambian sports.

The volleyball association boss appealed to the Ministry for help in order to secure a beach volleyball area at the Palma Rima Beach.

"As an Association, our strength is in beach volleyball and we believe if we continue to receive support from the Ministry, we will remain on top of Africa for a long time," he said.
