Our collective hearts are heavy as we stand on the precipice of sorrow, mourning the untimely departure of the extraordinary Dida Jallow-Halake. Molded from Ethiopian soil, nurtured under the warm Kenyan sun, polished with sophisticated British sensibilities, and pledged his undying loyalty to The Gambia, Dida was a remarkable person whose sudden departure has etched a profound, irreplaceable void in a multitude of hearts.
The history of the political development of human societies teaches us that tragedies have often occurred when two of the most prominent political leaders in a social entity put their personal interests above those of their peoples in their battle for preservation and/or conquest of power.
What did former president Abdoulie Wade do to warrant President Macky Sall, who was then a member of the opposition, to come out to the streets to demonstrate? And what did Ousman Sonko do to deserve bad treatment?

The year could have conceivably been 1996, during my sixth year as a pupil at Brikama Primary School. I remember attending after-school class until the late afternoon, around 4pm. My friends from New Town and I would journey home, some cycling and others, including myself, walking. The route covered a distance of about 2 kilometres, and our hunger increased with each stride.

To effect lasting change, communities must be at the heart of the push.It seems rather obvious that you need to secure the support of people most affected by the issues you are seeking to address.
The most hotly contested chairperson/mayoral elections this country has ever witnessed has been concluded in quite a similar pattern to the councilor elections held in mid-April.
In many ways Honourable OJ was a” man of the people”.
