Tribute to Biri Biri

Michel Pokpaye Koivogui, the President of the ECOWAS Citizens in The Gambia has joined thousands of Gambian and non-Gambian in mourning and paying tribute to legendary Gambian Footballer, Momodou Njie alias BiriBriri, who passed away last week.

The ECOWAS citizen in The Gambia President in his tribute described BiriBiri as undoubtedly among the most prominent players in the continent, combining charisma, talent, and skills in the field, as well as respect in front of all his colleagues in the sub region.  

Below is his the full text of his tribute to the late Biri Biri

On behalf of The ECOWAS Citizens in The Gambia (ECOCIG)we wish to express our heartfelt condolence to the family of the football legend Biri Biri who was laid to rest on Wednesday in Banjul.

Biri was undoubtably among the most prominent players in the continent, combining charisma, talent, and skills in the field, as well as respect in front of all his colleagues in the sub region. These include Sherif Sulayman of Guinea Conakry, Petit Sori and Cham UsmanTollo, Badou Gaye of Senegal, Louis Camara, and Domingo of Mali, to name a few.

BiriBiri will always serve as an example and a great source of inspiration to many children and fans in the whole of West Africa.

He has left a legacy that will continue through the many players he has trained and guided during his lifetime in The Gambia and Europe, particularly in the Spanish team Seville FC.

Our hearts in ECOCIG go out to this great man’s family and admirers in the entire ECOWAS Communities.

May the Gentle Soul of this Gambian legend rest in eternal peace.
