The sports fraternity in The Gambia morns the demise of a sports icon and a legend Ebou Joof.
Ebou rose from school football and became one of the founders of the dream team member of Real De Banjul . He excelled in school football at the Gambia High School and was identified to be one of the key defenders of Real De Banjul's dream team of the century .
Ebou was an excellent footballer that form the defense line up of the pioneer school boys team. The defence team composed of Sam Forster , Abdoulie Njie , Mustapha Fye , Mustapha Conteh just to name a few and base on an old mans memory .
Ebou was the brain behind the sealed defence of the dream team . He controlled, directed and managed the defense at all times to ensure that the team was always victorious. The legend Manager Mam Sait Njie always said that " Ebous talent was exceptional as he had a sense of responsibility that made him outstanding ."
He wore several hats after representing The Gambia as a national player .
He served in the educational field as a teacher and won the hearts of many of his students .
Ebou fell in love with sports and became a sports administrator that made him rise to the Position of Director of Youth and Sports . He supported a number of clubs in Bakau with technical advice during his tenure including his hometown teams that became one of the leading teams at that time .
Ebou was a humble , gentle , knowledgeable , ever smiling and generous as a person .
The founder members of Real De Banjul and the present management teams morns a man of vision that played a part in the teams success.
We pray to Allah to open the gate of heaven to our dear brother a sportsman of excellence to rest in perfect peace .
