I would like to commend you and the Ministry of Transport Works and Infrastructure, Gambia-MOTWI for the acquisition of the new ferry, ๐๐๐ซ๐ซ๐. This acquisition was long overdue, as the previous fleet posed significant risks and delays for commuters. ๐๐๐ซ๐ซ๐ is more than just a boat; it is a catalyst that will boost ๐๐๐ ๐ก-๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐๐ฃ๐๐๐๐ ๐ , ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐ฆ, ๐๐๐ ๐ โ๐๐๐ก๐๐ ๐ค๐๐๐ก๐๐๐ ๐ก๐๐๐๐ , ๐ข๐๐ก๐๐๐๐ก๐๐๐ฆ ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ก๐๐๐๐ง๐๐๐ ๐ก๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐ข๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐กโ๐ ๐ ๐๐ฃ๐๐ ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐.
๐๐ข๐ซ๐๐๐ญ๐จ๐ซ, congratulations once again on the sensitization video. Raising awareness and encouraging commuters to take ownership of the ferry as a shared national asset is a vital call, one that Barrow PORG emphasized during the commissioning.
However, in the past, our ferry terminals have been plagued by overflowing bins and discarded litter. This is due to a poor attitude toward keeping a public space clean and a lack of holding individuals accountable for littering. It is common in our culture to throw trash wherever we find it convenient, be it on the streets, roads, gardens, parks, markets, or street corners, and the ferry is no exception. My friend, Malick Kebba boarded the ๐๐๐ซ๐ซ๐ ferry a few weeks ago and saw a man eating peanuts and throwing the shells on the floor, while he was just a few meters away from a trash bin.
Though the ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ ๐๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐๐ญ ๐๐๐๐ prohibits littering in public places and imposes fines between ๐๐,๐๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐,๐๐๐. Unfortunately, the institutions responsible for its enforcement have stalled their operations for almost two decades while public spaces suffer.
To keep the ferry clean and combat this littering, I can only think of one solution: In addition, I will humbly ask my brother, ๐๐จ๐ง๐จ๐ซ๐๐๐ฅ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ง๐ง๐๐ก, to ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ฉ๐จ๐ต ๐ฌ๐จ๐ป๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ ๐ถ๐ต ๐จ๐ณ๐ณ ๐ท๐ผ๐ฉ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ช ๐ป๐น๐จ๐ต๐บ๐ท๐ถ๐น๐ป. This is in line with the
In the past, the filthiness of the ferries,
๐๐ข๐ซ๐๐๐ญ๐จ๐ซ, we cannot afford to let litter destroy what our taxpayers have worked so hard to acquire, but by โ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐,โ as Barrow PORG highlighted, this ferry will eventually serve future generations. Finally, I urge you to
I remain in the service of the nation. For the Gambia, ever true.
