In a bid to augment the mobility strength and facilitate easy data collection in the 2024 Population and Housing Census, the World Bank Gambia office has donated seven (7) new Toyota Prado vehicles to The Gambia Bureau of Statistics (GBOS) at a handing over ceremony held at GBOS premises in Kanifing,

The vehicles are not only meant to ensure the smooth conduct of the country’s Population & Housing census, but would go also go a long way in augmenting the mobility strength of the institution.

At the handing over ceremony, Serigne Fallou Njie, statistician general at GBoS, underscored the importance of the items, acknowledging the role GBoS as an institution plays in collecting and analyzing data.

Despite being in the era of technology and innovation, Njie indicated that in order to collect data in the country, one must get to the people where they are.

The gesture, he added, would go a long way in augmenting the mobility strength to that regards, saying these vehicles would undoubtedly enhance and facilitate easy movement to the remotest areas in the country, so as to ensure quality data collection.

Lamin Bojang, financial adviser to the Ministry Finance on behalf of the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, said those vehicles would enhance and ensure smooth movement for GBoS officials especially in the upcoming population and housing census.

To that end, Bojang thanked WB for financing the project and the contractors for making sure the vehicles were delivered on time.

That support, he added, would go a long way in harmonising statistics collation in the sub-region.
