Held during the ninth edition of the Africa Digital Economy Awards (ADEA) at Ole Sereni in Nairobi, Kenya, the award recognises her exceptional efforts in promoting and empowering women and girls in STEM fields across Africa.
Reacting to the award, Kodou Jeng, expressed her appreciation to the awarders as she pondered over how far she has come.
“Last year, I stepped aside from the She Awards Gambia nomination with a view to allow younger girls to shine and take the stage, as it has always been my motivation to see them rise and succeed,” she claimed.
She added: “This year, I am incredibly humbled and grateful to be recognized at a continental level by receiving the ‘STEM Woman of the Year’ award.”
She dedicated the awards to her parents, adding: “My parents have sacrificed a lot for me during my school days which of course motivated me to work harder in order to ease their burden. The award is also dedicated to young girls in STEM who dare to dream.”
Further reacting to the award, she said, Africa’s true potential lies in the potential of the young people.
“This award doesn’t only recognise my efforts, but those of countless women and girls across Africa who are making strides in STEM. My deepest gratitude goes to my family, the EU Gambia, QGROUP, and my mentors for their unwavering support.”
The Brikama born further added: “The award also symbolizes the resilience and innovation of women across Africa, affirming our role in shaping the future.”
