The gesture, which excludes administration cost, is valued at D1.1 million and was delivered on Eid day.
The charity also distributed 660 bags of 50-kg of rice to Pipeline Mosque, King Fahad Mosque, Serrekunda Gaddafi Mosque, Sukuta-Brusubi, Women Association of the Disabled of Serrekunda among other mosques and needy households in the country. In following Muslims teachings and culture, it also distributed Fidyah and Kaffarah of over five thousand food packs to needy Muslims as Iftar.
It could be recalled that the charity earlier on daily basis, bought and slaughtered 15 cows with cartons of chicken, all of which were distributed as meals to Masjids and needy Muslims as Iftar. The budget for the Fidyah and Kaffarah was D1.4 million.
The foundation during the Holy month of Ramadan also distributed food packages to the needy across the country. In addition, it also slaughtered 25 goats and 8 sheep and distributed the flesh as Iftar to beneficiaries within Kombos.
Muhammed Nyan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Foundation, highlighted the charity’s role in bettering the lives and livelihoods of needy families, saying it continues to render support to needy families regardless of ethnicity, gender, political affiliations or religious beliefs.
CEO Nyan observed that there were so many Ramadan projects but thank God they were able to successful complete their task.
He thanked the founder and CEO of WHIPSO Germany, Tariq Hazza for ensuring the foundation is able to touch the lives of people around the world.
Nyang equally thanked their Head of projects, Yunus Kuhnhardt and the entire WHIPSO team in Germany for working tirelessly to ensure they have sustainable projects in The Gambia.
Meanwhile, Zakat ul Fitr (also known as Fitrana) is a charity in the form of food that must be given before Eid prayers, before the end of the month of Ramadan, for the love of Allah, while Zakat ul-Fitr is compulsory upon every self-supporting adult Muslim, who has food in excess of their needs, on behalf of themselves and their dependants.
Similarly, Fidyah is paid for deliberately missing a fast with a valid reason to do so. The amount paid in Fidyah for each missed fast is equivalent to feeding one person. It is when someone cannot fast in Ramadan and cannot make up the lost days afterwards (for example, because of a long-term health condition), then they should pay (Fidya) for someone else to be fed.
Established in 2018, WHIPSO is committed to supporting development initiatives regardless of ethnicity, gender, political affiliations or religious beliefs. It basically supports projects that are of long-term benefit and some of the support cuts across from education, water supply, infrastructure, agriculture, medical supplies and facilities, environmental protection, Ramadan aid for the needy among others.
