The beneficiary regions include North Bank, Lower River, Central River and Upper River Regions. More so, the donation aims to support vulnerable households while strengthening communal bonds, ensuring that those in need have access to essential food supplies during this blessed month of Ramadan.
Moreover, the bags of sugar donated include diabetic-friendly ones to ensure that even those with dietary restrictions can benefit.
Landing Sanneh, chairperson of Mansakonko Area Council (MAC), while describing the move as ‘laudable’, acknowledged that expenditures and other logistical arrangements for households are always high during Ramadan.
Therefore, he said VDF’s support will go a long way in easing the burden, particularly for families in need. “It will also boost morale by fostering a sense of community, encouraging us to see ourselves as one family, one country, and one people. Beyond the benefits of receiving food items, this initiative reminds us of the importance of sharing and caring for one another. As a result, it will strengthen relationships and promote unity and togetherness within our country.”
Chairman Sanneh described Darboe as a true philanthropist such that his efforts are not driven by politics, social recognition, or any form of personal gain.
“Instead, through the Vision Development Foundation, he is dedicated to supporting humanity. This initiative is truly remarkable and stands out as one of a kind. Unlike many who might engage in such efforts for political or social recognition, the Vision Development Foundation is committed solely to humanitarian aid. We should all acknowledge and appreciate this gesture, extending our gratitude to him and the foundation for their selfless contributions.”
Pa Bojang, a beneficiary, spoke highly of the CEO Turo Darboe, whom he said he has known for years, noting that he does not involve politics in his business. “We are all one Gambia, regardless of which political party one belongs to,” he said.
To that end, he said Gambia needs more people like Turo Darboe to support people, especially the most vulnerable.
To this end, Mr Bojang urged Gambians who are able to assist the needy to come forth and support the people.
“We want unity and togetherness in The Gambia because these are the backbones of a strong nation,” he added.
