Herbert Robinson, vice chancellor for the University in his remarks announced that UTG is adding 42 subjects to the doctorate field in the country.
He described the graduates as another crop of highly trained young men and women.
Hopefully he added, they will stay and work to support the health care delivery in The Gambia.
The UTG VC also commended the graduates for their sacrifices and investment during the course of their studies to ensure they achieved their goals and aspirations.
According to VC Robinson, “the newly sworn-in doctors now have the legal and moral right to use the title "doctor."
He added that they have brought great honour to themselves, their parents, guardians, lecturers, the University of The Gambia and the entire nation.
"The University of The Gambia has trained 424 doctors since its inception in 1999, comprising 353 Gambians,” he stated, noting that many of the graduates are now working in the hospitals to support the health sector.
He disclosed that the honourable Minister for High Education, Research, Science and Technology recently set up a committee mandated to look at some of the challenges they face as a University.
He described the initiative as a remarkable achievement considering the challenges posed by lack of good infrastructure and clinical skills.
