UTG Students' Union holds landmark confab

On the occasion marking International Women's Day observed last Sunday 8th March 2026, University of The Gambia Students’ Union (UTGSU) on Sunday staged a landmark 'All-Gender Conference 2026 at the Law Faculty Auditorium in Kanifing.

The confab, held under the theme - 'Advancing Gender Equality for Inclusive and Sustainable National Development’, seeks to discuss and chart ways to address a range of issues in The Gambia.

The initiative was held through the Health and Welfare Ministry, which is the arm of the UTGSU responsible for health and welfare matters.

It attracted scores of students, young activists, youth leaders and had frank and thoughtful and informed discussions on gender equality and inclusive development.

The speakers included Muhammed Ceesay, a youth speaker, who doubles as the secretary general of the UTGSU; Gibril Njie, administrative secretary of Concierge of Health; Ebrima Darboe, programmes officer of Men for Equality; Suwaibou Fofana, programme officer of Peace Hub Gambia.

Other speakers included Yamundow Hydara, programmes associate of Think Young Women, and Isatou Bah, programmes manager of Network Against Gender-Based Violence, all of whom underscored the importance of the confab especially in changing the narrative of gender issues in the country.
